PIPEDA law was enacted to protect consumers and their right to privacy as it pertains to their personal information. it governs the collection, use or disclosure of Personal Information through commercial activity. Many serious and detremental concequences can occur from the illcit use of Personal Information, Identity Theft, Health Information leaked or financial disclosures for example Heres what the law protects:
- Age, Name, ID Numbers, Health care card numbers, SIN, income, Ethnic origin or Blood type. Driving license number.
- Opinions, evaluations, comments, disciplinary records, criminal records.
- Employee files, medical records, resignation letters.
- Videotape, machine readable records, photographs and sound recordings.
- Home contact information
- Marital status and Insurance benefit coverage
- Web-site cookies, and the like.
